- HEIC is apple photo format. It is lossy, so it has a quality setting. It cannot store transparency.

Will converting JPG to HEIC lower the quality?
HEIC is a lossy format, so the picture is compressed again when it is saved. Keep the quality between 85 and 95 and the result looks the same as the JPG for almost every photo.
What happens to transparency when I convert JPG to HEIC?
JPG has no see-through areas, so there is nothing to carry over.
