HEIC and BMP compared
- HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhone and iPad. It opens on Apple devices, but many Windows apps, websites and upload forms cannot read it.
- BMP is uncompressed, old software. It is lossless, so it has no quality setting. It cannot store transparency.

Will converting HEIC to BMP lower the quality?
BMP loses nothing when it is saved. Detail the HEIC file already lost cannot come back, so the picture looks the same as before, not sharper.
What happens to transparency when I convert HEIC to BMP?
BMP cannot be see-through, so transparent areas are filled with a solid colour. It is white by default and you can pick another colour.
Why does my iPhone photo not open or upload?
