Convert images online

Switch a picture to another format and see the new file size before you save it. It all runs in your browser.

  • Six output formats. Convert to JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC or BMP. Formats your browser cannot write are greyed out, so you never download a file in the wrong format by surprise.
  • Opens almost anything. Add JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG and iPhone HEIC photos. Slow files, like HEIC, show a live percentage while they open.
  • Live size comparison. Every image shows its old size, its new size and how much smaller or larger it got. Change the format or quality and every file updates by itself.
  • You control the quality. JPG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC have a quality slider. PNG and BMP are lossless, so they keep every pixel.
  • Transparency handled. PNG, WebP and AVIF keep see-through areas. JPG, HEIC and BMP cannot, so you choose the background colour that fills them, white by default.
  • Up to 50 images at once. Drop a whole folder, then download one image or everything as one ZIP. Paste a screenshot with Ctrl or Cmd + V too. Nothing is uploaded.

Uses of an image converter

The right format makes a picture open anywhere, load faster or fit an upload limit. These are the most common reasons to convert.

  • iPhone photos that will not open. HEIC pictures do not open in many apps and websites. Convert them to JPG and they work everywhere.
  • Faster websites. Save PNG and JPG pictures as WebP or AVIF to cut file size, so pages load faster, especially on phones.
  • Upload forms that only take JPG or PNG. Job applications, ID checks and online shops often limit the file type. Switch the format and try again.
  • Logos and screenshots. Turn a JPG into a PNG when you need sharp edges or transparency, or a PNG into a JPG to make a screenshot lighter.
  • Older software and devices. Some printers, kiosks and legacy programs only read BMP or JPG. Convert once and carry on.
  • Email and chat attachments. Shrink a large PNG to a JPG so it fits under the attachment limit without a visible difference.

Image converter questions

How do I convert an image online?

Choose the format you want, add your pictures, and press Download. The conversion happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG?

Pick JPG, then add your HEIC photos. They are decoded in your browser, which can take a moment for large pictures, and saved as JPG files you can download one by one or as a ZIP.

Which format should I choose?

JPG is the safest for photos and works everywhere. PNG is best for logos, screenshots and anything with transparency. WebP and AVIF give the smallest files for websites. BMP is only for very old software.

Will converting lower the quality?

PNG and BMP lose nothing. JPG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC are lossy, so keep the quality around 85 to 95 for photos that look the same as the original. Converting a JPG to PNG will not restore detail the JPG already lost.

Why is my PNG bigger than the original JPG?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, which makes photos large. Use JPG, WebP or AVIF for photos, and keep PNG for graphics with flat colours or transparency.

What happens to transparent areas?

PNG, WebP and AVIF keep them. JPG, HEIC and BMP cannot be see-through, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose.

Why are WebP or AVIF greyed out?

Your browser decides which formats it can write. If one is greyed out, that browser cannot save it. Try a recent version of Chrome or Edge.

What happens to animated GIFs?

Only the first frame is converted, because JPG, PNG and BMP cannot hold animation.

Does it remove EXIF and location data?

Yes. The picture is redrawn and saved as a new file, so camera details and GPS position are not carried over.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to a server.
