Crop GIF images in your browser

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a 256-colour format best known for short animations. It opens in every browser, app and device. This GIF cropper lets you drag a box, lock an aspect ratio, type exact pixels, rotate, flip and straighten, then copy, share or download the result. Nothing is uploaded.

How to crop a GIF image

  1. Drop your GIF file onto the page, press Choose image, or paste a picture.
  2. Pick an aspect ratio, or leave it on Free. Drag the box and its handles, or type exact pixel values.
  3. Check the live preview under the picture. Open Output and guides to change the format, quality or width.
  4. Press Copy, Share or Download to get your cropped image.

GIF cropping questions

How do I crop a GIF image?

Add your GIF file with the box above, drag the box or type exact pixel values, check the live preview and press Download. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Will cropping lower the quality of a GIF?

Cropping only removes pixels, so what is left of your GIF keeps every detail it had. Nothing is resampled unless you set an output width.

Is the cropped GIF saved as GIF?

The cropper saves PNG, JPEG or WebP. A GIF is saved as PNG by default, and you can choose JPEG or WebP under Output and guides.

What happens to transparency in a GIF?

See-through areas stay see-through when the result is a PNG or WebP, and circle or rounded corners are see-through too. A JPEG cannot be see-through, so those areas get the background colour you choose.

What happens to an animated GIF?

It stays animated. Every frame is cropped with the same selection, and the result downloads as a GIF that keeps its timing and loops.
