Crop AVIF images in your browser

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a newer format with some of the smallest photo files. Current browsers open it, but many older apps, editors and upload forms do not. This AVIF cropper lets you drag a box, lock an aspect ratio, type exact pixels, rotate, flip and straighten, then copy, share or download the result. Nothing is uploaded.

How to crop a AVIF image

  1. Drop your AVIF file onto the page, press Choose image, or paste a picture.
  2. Pick an aspect ratio, or leave it on Free. Drag the box and its handles, or type exact pixel values.
  3. Check the live preview under the picture. Open Output and guides to change the format, quality or width.
  4. Press Copy, Share or Download to get your cropped image.

AVIF cropping questions

How do I crop a AVIF image?

Add your AVIF file with the box above, drag the box or type exact pixel values, check the live preview and press Download. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Will cropping lower the quality of a AVIF?

Cropping only removes pixels, so what is left of your AVIF is not resampled unless you set a width. Lossy formats are compressed again when saved, so keep the quality high for the best result.

Is the cropped AVIF saved as AVIF?

The cropper saves PNG, JPEG or WebP. A AVIF is saved as PNG by default, and you can choose JPEG or WebP under Output and guides.

What happens to transparency in a AVIF?

See-through areas stay see-through when the result is a PNG or WebP, and circle or rounded corners are see-through too. A JPEG cannot be see-through, so those areas get the background colour you choose.
