Compress WebP Online
WebP (Web Picture format) is a modern web format that makes smaller files than JPG and PNG. Every current browser opens it, but some older apps and editors do not. This WebP compressor shows the new file size live, lets you compare before and after, can hit a file size limit and handles up to 50 images at once. Nothing is uploaded.
How to compress a WebP image
- Drop your WebP files onto the page, press Choose images, or paste a picture.
- Pick a quality, or set a file size limit such as under 200 KB.
- Drag the divider to compare the original with the compressed image. Open Settings for the format, colors or longest side.
- Press Download for the current image, or Download all to get every image in one ZIP file.
WebP compression questions
How do I compress a WebP image?
Add your WebP files with the box above, set the quality, a file size limit or a smaller longest side, compare the result with the original and press Download. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
How much smaller will my WebP get?
WebP is already compressed, so the gain depends on the file. Lowering the quality, setting a file size limit or capping the longest side usually saves the most. If a file cannot get smaller, the original is kept.
Is the compressed WebP saved as WebP?
Yes. With Format set to Same format, a WebP goes in and a WebP comes out. You can also choose Auto, JPEG, WebP or PNG in Settings.
What happens to transparency in a WebP?
See-through areas stay see-through when the result is a PNG or WebP. A JPEG cannot be see-through, so those areas are filled with white.
