Compress HEIC Online

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhone and iPad. It opens on Apple devices, but many Windows apps, websites and upload forms cannot read it. This HEIC compressor shows the new file size live, lets you compare before and after, can hit a file size limit and handles up to 50 images at once. Nothing is uploaded.

How to compress a HEIC image

  1. Drop your HEIC files onto the page, press Choose images, or paste a picture.
  2. Pick a quality, or set a file size limit such as under 200 KB.
  3. Drag the divider to compare the original with the compressed image. Open Settings for the format, colors or longest side.
  4. Press Download for the current image, or Download all to get every image in one ZIP file.

HEIC compression questions

How do I compress a HEIC image?

Add your HEIC files with the box above, set the quality, a file size limit or a smaller longest side, compare the result with the original and press Download. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

How much smaller will my HEIC get?

HEIC is already compressed, so the gain depends on the file. Lowering the quality, setting a file size limit or capping the longest side usually saves the most. If a file cannot get smaller, the original is kept.

Is the compressed HEIC saved as HEIC?

HEIC is opened by converting it in your browser, so the result is a PNG unless you choose Auto, JPEG or WebP in Settings. JPEG or WebP gives a much smaller file.

What happens to transparency in a HEIC?

See-through areas stay see-through when the result is a PNG or WebP. A JPEG cannot be see-through, so those areas are filled with white.

Why does my iPhone photo not open or upload?

iPhones save photos as HEIC to keep files small, and many apps and websites do not understand it. Converting to a common format fixes it, and your original stays untouched.
