Compress BMP Online
BMP (Bitmap) is an uncompressed format from older Windows software. Most apps open it, but the files are very large, so websites rarely accept it. This BMP compressor shows the new file size live, lets you compare before and after, can hit a file size limit and handles up to 50 images at once. Nothing is uploaded.
How to compress a BMP image
- Drop your BMP files onto the page, press Choose images, or paste a picture.
- Pick a quality, or set a file size limit such as under 200 KB.
- Drag the divider to compare the original with the compressed image. Open Settings for the format, colors or longest side.
- Press Download for the current image, or Download all to get every image in one ZIP file.
BMP compression questions
How do I compress a BMP image?
Add your BMP files with the box above, set the quality, a file size limit or a smaller longest side, compare the result with the original and press Download. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
How much smaller will my BMP get?
BMP stores every pixel without compression, so the savings are usually very large. Choose JPEG or WebP for the smallest file, or PNG to keep every pixel.
Is the compressed BMP saved as BMP?
The compressor saves JPEG, WebP or PNG. A BMP is saved as PNG with Same format, and you can choose Auto, JPEG or WebP in Settings for a smaller file.
What happens to transparency in a BMP?
BMP has no see-through areas, so there is nothing to keep.
