Terabytes (TB) to Exabytes (EB) Converter
Convert terabytes to exabytes.
1 TB = 0.000001 EB
How to convert TB to EB
File sizes here use the decimal (SI) system, the same one drive makers and network providers use. In that system 1 Terabyte is 1012 bytes and 1 Exabyte is 1018 bytes. Divide one by the other and you get the ratio between the two units: 1012 ÷ 1018 = 10−6.
Terabyte is the smaller unit, so you divide. One TB is only 0.000001 of a EB, which means the decimal point moves 6 places to the left.
On the ladder (B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB → EB → ZB → YB → RB → QB) these two are 2 steps apart. Every step is a factor of 1,000, so 2 steps means 1,000 multiplied by itself 2 times, which is 106.
The formula
EB = TB ÷ 1,000,0001 TB = 0.000001 EB
Worked example 1: Converting 1 TB
1 TB ÷ 1,000,000 = 0.000001 EBThe decimal point moves 6 places to the left.
1 TB is a common size for a laptop SSD or an external hard drive.
Worked example 2: Converting 0.5 TB
0.5 TB ÷ 1,000,000 = 5 × 10−7 EBThe decimal point moves 6 places to the left.
Worked example 3: Converting 12.75 TB
12.75 TB ÷ 1,000,000 = 0.00001275 EBThe decimal point moves 6 places to the left.

Where TB to EB comes up
A terabyte is 1,000 gigabytes, about 250,000 photos at 4 MB each. Terabytes are how consumer SSDs, external drives, home NAS boxes and cloud storage plans are sold.
An exabyte is 1,000 petabytes, or a billion gigabytes. Exabytes describe traffic across whole networks, national-scale archives and industry forecasts, not any single file or drive.
Going from terabytes up to exabytes always gives a smaller number, because you are counting in bigger chunks. People do it to make a long number readable, or to compare a file with the size of a drive or a plan.
TB to EB FAQ
How many exabytes are in 1 terabyte?
One terabyte is 0.000001 of a exabyte. It takes 1,000,000 terabytes to make 1 exabyte.
Is TB to EB decimal or binary?
This page is decimal (SI), where 1 KB = 1,000 B. Operating systems often count in powers of 1,024 and still print KB, MB or GB, when they really mean KiB, MiB and GiB. At EB the two systems differ by about 15.3%.
How do I convert EB to TB?
