How to convert KB to EB
File sizes here use the decimal (SI) system, the same one drive makers and network providers use. In that system 1 Kilobyte is 103 bytes and 1 Exabyte is 1018 bytes. Divide one by the other and you get the ratio between the two units: 103 ÷ 1018 = 10−15.
Kilobyte is the smaller unit, so you divide. One KB is only 1 × 10−15 of a EB, which means the decimal point moves 15 places to the left.
On the ladder (B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB → EB → ZB → YB → RB → QB) these two are 5 steps apart. Every step is a factor of 1,000, so 5 steps means 1,000 multiplied by itself 5 times, which is 1015.
The formula
EB = KB ÷ 10151 KB = 1 × 10−15 EB1015 means 1 followed by 15 zeros
Worked example 1: Converting 3 KB
3 KB ÷ 1015 = 3 × 10−15 EBThe decimal point moves 15 places to the left.
3 KB is about one typed page of plain text.
Worked example 2: Converting 0.5 KB
0.5 KB ÷ 1015 = 5 × 10−16 EBThe decimal point moves 15 places to the left.
Worked example 3: Converting 12.75 KB
12.75 KB ÷ 1015 = 1.275 × 10−14 EBThe decimal point moves 15 places to the left.

Where KB to EB comes up
A kilobyte is 1,000 bytes, roughly a short paragraph of text. Kilobytes are the everyday unit for small files such as text documents, icons, config files and scripts, and for tight limits like form uploads or email signatures.
An exabyte is 1,000 petabytes, or a billion gigabytes. Exabytes describe traffic across whole networks, national-scale archives and industry forecasts, not any single file or drive.
Going from kilobytes up to exabytes always gives a smaller number, because you are counting in bigger chunks. People do it to make a long number readable, or to compare a file with the size of a drive or a plan.
