Exabytes (EB) to Kilobytes (KB) Converter
Convert exabytes to kilobytes.
1 EB = 1,000,000,000,000,000 KB
How to convert EB to KB
File sizes here use the decimal (SI) system, the same one drive makers and network providers use. In that system 1 Exabyte is 1018 bytes and 1 Kilobyte is 103 bytes. Divide one by the other and you get the ratio between the two units: 1018 ÷ 103 = 1015.
Exabyte is the bigger unit, so you multiply. Every EB holds 1015 KB, which means the decimal point moves 15 places to the right.
On the ladder (B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB → EB → ZB → YB → RB → QB) these two are 5 steps apart. Every step is a factor of 1,000, so 5 steps means 1,000 multiplied by itself 5 times, which is 1015.
The formula
KB = EB × 10151 EB = 1 × 1015 KB1015 means 1 followed by 15 zeros
Worked example 1: Converting 1 EB
1 EB × 1015 = 1 × 1015 KBThe decimal point moves 15 places to the right.
1 EB is only a small fraction of what worldwide internet traffic adds up to in one month.
Worked example 2: Converting 0.5 EB
0.5 EB × 1015 = 500,000,000,000,000 KBThe decimal point moves 15 places to the right.
Worked example 3: Converting 12.75 EB
12.75 EB × 1015 = 1.275 × 1016 KBThe decimal point moves 15 places to the right.

| 1 EB | 1 × 1015 KB |
| 2.5 EB | 2.5 × 1015 KB |
| 10 EB | 1 × 1016 KB |
| 50 EB | 5 × 1016 KB |
| 100 EB | 1 × 1017 KB |

| 1,000 EB | 1 × 1018 KB |
Where EB to KB comes up
An exabyte is 1,000 petabytes, or a billion gigabytes. Exabytes describe traffic across whole networks, national-scale archives and industry forecasts, not any single file or drive.
A kilobyte is 1,000 bytes, roughly a short paragraph of text. Kilobytes are the everyday unit for small files such as text documents, icons, config files and scripts, and for tight limits like form uploads or email signatures.
Going from exabytes down to kilobytes always gives a bigger number, because the unit you land on is smaller. It is the usual direction when a limit or a form asks for a smaller unit than the one you have in mind.
EB to KB FAQ
How many kilobytes are in 1 exabyte?
There are 1015 kilobytes in 1 exabyte, so 1 EB = 1015 KB.
Is EB to KB decimal or binary?
This page is decimal (SI), where 1 KB = 1,000 B. Operating systems often count in powers of 1,024 and still print KB, MB or GB, when they really mean KiB, MiB and GiB. At EB the two systems differ by about 15.3%.
How do I convert KB to EB?
Go the other way: divide by 1015, which moves the decimal point 15 places to the left. The swap button on the converter does it for you.
