Yottabytes (YB) to Ronnabytes (RB) Converter

Convert yottabytes to ronnabytes.

1 YB = 0.001 RB

How to convert YB to RB

File sizes here use the decimal (SI) system, the same one drive makers and network providers use. In that system 1 Yottabyte is 1024 bytes and 1 Ronnabyte is 1027 bytes. Divide one by the other and you get the ratio between the two units: 1024 ÷ 1027 = 10−3.

Yottabyte is the smaller unit, so you divide. One YB is only 0.001 of a RB, which means the decimal point moves 3 places to the left.

These two sit side by side on the ladder (B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB → EB → ZB → YB → RB → QB), so there is nothing to work out beyond remembering that every step is a factor of 1,000.

The formula

RB = YB ÷ 1,0001 YB = 0.001 RB

Worked example 1: Converting 1 YB

1 YB ÷ 1,000 = 0.001 RBThe decimal point moves 3 places to the left.

No storage system with published figures reaches a yottabyte yet.

Worked example 2: Converting 0.5 YB

0.5 YB ÷ 1,000 = 0.0005 RBThe decimal point moves 3 places to the left.

Worked example 3: Converting 12.75 YB

12.75 YB ÷ 1,000 = 0.01275 RBThe decimal point moves 3 places to the left.

Where YB to RB comes up

A yottabyte is 1,000 zettabytes, which is 1024 bytes. Yottabytes are mostly a textbook and forecast unit. You meet them in articles about how large data totals could grow.

Ronna- is the SI prefix for 1027, adopted in November 2022, so a ronnabyte is 1,000 yottabytes. Ronnabytes are new and mostly theoretical. You will see them in unit tables and in pieces about how big future data totals might get.

Going from yottabytes up to ronnabytes always gives a smaller number, because you are counting in bigger chunks. People do it to make a long number readable, or to compare a file with the size of a drive or a plan.

YB to RB FAQ

How many ronnabytes are in 1 yottabyte?

One yottabyte is 0.001 of a ronnabyte. It takes 1,000 yottabytes to make 1 ronnabyte.

Is YB to RB decimal or binary?

This page is decimal (SI), where 1 KB = 1,000 B. Operating systems often count in powers of 1,024 and still print KB, MB or GB, when they really mean KiB, MiB and GiB. At RB the gap is wider still.

How do I convert RB to YB?

Go the other way: multiply by 1,000, which moves the decimal point 3 places to the right. The swap button on the converter does it for you.
