Gigabytes (GB) to Ronnabytes (RB) Converter
Convert gigabytes to ronnabytes.

How to convert GB to RB
File sizes here use the decimal (SI) system, the same one drive makers and network providers use. In that system 1 Gigabyte is 109 bytes and 1 Ronnabyte is 1027 bytes. Divide one by the other and you get the ratio between the two units: 109 ÷ 1027 = 10−18.
Gigabyte is the smaller unit, so you divide. One GB is only 1 × 10−18 of a RB, which means the decimal point moves 18 places to the left.
On the ladder (B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB → EB → ZB → YB → RB → QB) these two are 6 steps apart. Every step is a factor of 1,000, so 6 steps means 1,000 multiplied by itself 6 times, which is 1018.
The formula
RB = GB ÷ 10181 GB = 1 × 10−18 RB1018 means 1 followed by 18 zeros
Worked example 1: Converting 4.7 GB
4.7 GB ÷ 1018 = 4.7 × 10−18 RBThe decimal point moves 18 places to the left.
4.7 GB is the capacity of a single-layer DVD.
Worked example 2: Converting 0.5 GB
0.5 GB ÷ 1018 = 5 × 10−19 RBThe decimal point moves 18 places to the left.
Worked example 3: Converting 12.75 GB
12.75 GB ÷ 1018 = 1.275 × 10−17 RBThe decimal point moves 18 places to the left.

Where GB to RB comes up
A gigabyte is 1,000 megabytes, about 250 photos at 4 MB each. Gigabytes are the language of phone storage, RAM, mobile data plans, game installs and USB sticks.
Ronna- is the SI prefix for 1027, adopted in November 2022, so a ronnabyte is 1,000 yottabytes. Ronnabytes are new and mostly theoretical. You will see them in unit tables and in pieces about how big future data totals might get.
Going from gigabytes up to ronnabytes always gives a smaller number, because you are counting in bigger chunks. People do it to make a long number readable, or to compare a file with the size of a drive or a plan.
GB to RB FAQ
How many ronnabytes are in 1 gigabyte?
One gigabyte is 1 × 10−18 of a ronnabyte. It takes 1018 gigabytes to make 1 ronnabyte.
Is GB to RB decimal or binary?
This page is decimal (SI), where 1 KB = 1,000 B. Operating systems often count in powers of 1,024 and still print KB, MB or GB, when they really mean KiB, MiB and GiB. At RB the gap is wider still.
How do I convert RB to GB?
Go the other way: multiply by 1018, which moves the decimal point 18 places to the right. The swap button on the converter does it for you.
