Exabytes (EB) to Zettabytes (ZB) Converter
Convert exabytes to zettabytes.
1 EB = 0.001 ZB
How to convert EB to ZB
File sizes here use the decimal (SI) system, the same one drive makers and network providers use. In that system 1 Exabyte is 1018 bytes and 1 Zettabyte is 1021 bytes. Divide one by the other and you get the ratio between the two units: 1018 ÷ 1021 = 10−3.
Exabyte is the smaller unit, so you divide. One EB is only 0.001 of a ZB, which means the decimal point moves 3 places to the left.
These two sit side by side on the ladder (B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB → EB → ZB → YB → RB → QB), so there is nothing to work out beyond remembering that every step is a factor of 1,000.
The formula
ZB = EB ÷ 1,0001 EB = 0.001 ZB
Worked example 1: Converting 1 EB
1 EB ÷ 1,000 = 0.001 ZBThe decimal point moves 3 places to the left.
1 EB is only a small fraction of what worldwide internet traffic adds up to in one month.
Worked example 2: Converting 0.5 EB
0.5 EB ÷ 1,000 = 0.0005 ZBThe decimal point moves 3 places to the left.
Worked example 3: Converting 12.75 EB
12.75 EB ÷ 1,000 = 0.01275 ZBThe decimal point moves 3 places to the left.

Where EB to ZB comes up
An exabyte is 1,000 petabytes, or a billion gigabytes. Exabytes describe traffic across whole networks, national-scale archives and industry forecasts, not any single file or drive.
A zettabyte is 1,000 exabytes, or a trillion gigabytes. Zettabytes appear in market reports and forecasts about how much data the world creates, copies and stores each year.
Going from exabytes up to zettabytes always gives a smaller number, because you are counting in bigger chunks. People do it to make a long number readable, or to compare a file with the size of a drive or a plan.
EB to ZB FAQ
How many zettabytes are in 1 exabyte?
One exabyte is 0.001 of a zettabyte. It takes 1,000 exabytes to make 1 zettabyte.
Is EB to ZB decimal or binary?
This page is decimal (SI), where 1 KB = 1,000 B. Operating systems often count in powers of 1,024 and still print KB, MB or GB, when they really mean KiB, MiB and GiB. At ZB the two systems differ by about 18.1%.
How do I convert ZB to EB?
Go the other way: multiply by 1,000, which moves the decimal point 3 places to the right. The swap button on the converter does it for you.
