Exabytes (EB) to Quettabytes (QB) Converter
Convert exabytes to quettabytes.
1 EB = 1e-12 QB
How to convert EB to QB
File sizes here use the decimal (SI) system, the same one drive makers and network providers use. In that system 1 Exabyte is 1018 bytes and 1 Quettabyte is 1030 bytes. Divide one by the other and you get the ratio between the two units: 1018 ÷ 1030 = 10−12.
Exabyte is the smaller unit, so you divide. One EB is only 1 × 10−12 of a QB, which means the decimal point moves 12 places to the left.
On the ladder (B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB → EB → ZB → YB → RB → QB) these two are 4 steps apart. Every step is a factor of 1,000, so 4 steps means 1,000 multiplied by itself 4 times, which is 1012.
The formula
QB = EB ÷ 10121 EB = 1 × 10−12 QB1012 means 1 followed by 12 zeros
Worked example 1: Converting 1 EB
1 EB ÷ 1012 = 1 × 10−12 QBThe decimal point moves 12 places to the left.
1 EB is only a small fraction of what worldwide internet traffic adds up to in one month.
Worked example 2: Converting 0.5 EB
0.5 EB ÷ 1012 = 5 × 10−13 QBThe decimal point moves 12 places to the left.
Worked example 3: Converting 12.75 EB
12.75 EB ÷ 1012 = 1.275 × 10−11 QBThe decimal point moves 12 places to the left.

Where EB to QB comes up
An exabyte is 1,000 petabytes, or a billion gigabytes. Exabytes describe traffic across whole networks, national-scale archives and industry forecasts, not any single file or drive.
Quetta- is the SI prefix for 1030, also adopted in 2022, so a quettabyte is 1,000 ronnabytes. Quettabytes are the top of the official SI ladder. They turn up in unit tables and in explanations of the newest prefixes.
Going from exabytes up to quettabytes always gives a smaller number, because you are counting in bigger chunks. People do it to make a long number readable, or to compare a file with the size of a drive or a plan.
EB to QB FAQ
How many quettabytes are in 1 exabyte?
One exabyte is 1 × 10−12 of a quettabyte. It takes 1012 exabytes to make 1 quettabyte.
Is EB to QB decimal or binary?
This page is decimal (SI), where 1 KB = 1,000 B. Operating systems often count in powers of 1,024 and still print KB, MB or GB, when they really mean KiB, MiB and GiB. At QB the gap is wider still.
How do I convert QB to EB?
Go the other way: multiply by 1012, which moves the decimal point 12 places to the right. The swap button on the converter does it for you.
