How to convert Bytes (B) to RB
File sizes here use the decimal (SI) system, the same one drive makers and network providers use. In that system 1 Byte is 100 bytes and 1 Ronnabyte is 1027 bytes. Divide one by the other and you get the ratio between the two units: 100 ÷ 1027 = 10−27.
Byte is the smaller unit, so you divide. One B is only 1 × 10−27 of a RB, which means the decimal point moves 27 places to the left.
On the ladder (B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB → EB → ZB → YB → RB → QB) these two are 9 steps apart. Every step is a factor of 1,000, so 9 steps means 1,000 multiplied by itself 9 times, which is 1027.
The formula
RB = Bytes (B) ÷ 10271 B = 1 × 10−27 RB1027 means 1 followed by 27 zeros
Worked example 1: Converting 160 B
160 B ÷ 1027 = 1.6 × 10−25 RBThe decimal point moves 27 places to the left.
160 B is about 160 characters of plain ASCII text.
Worked example 2: Converting 0.5 B
0.5 B ÷ 1027 = 5 × 10−28 RBThe decimal point moves 27 places to the left.
Worked example 3: Converting 12.75 B
12.75 B ÷ 1027 = 1.275 × 10−26 RBThe decimal point moves 27 places to the left.

Bytes (B) to RB examples
160 B is about 160 characters of plain ASCII text. In ronnabytes that is 1.6 × 10−25 RB.

Where Bytes (B) to RB comes up
A byte is eight bits, enough to store one character of plain English text. Bytes show up whenever you need the exact number: file properties, HTTP headers, memory buffers, database column limits and the counts programs print in logs.
Ronna- is the SI prefix for 1027, adopted in November 2022, so a ronnabyte is 1,000 yottabytes. Ronnabytes are new and mostly theoretical. You will see them in unit tables and in pieces about how big future data totals might get.
Starting from bytes means turning an exact count into a unit people can read at a glance.
Going from bytes up to ronnabytes always gives a smaller number, because you are counting in bigger chunks. People do it to make a long number readable, or to compare a file with the size of a drive or a plan.
Bytes (B) to RB FAQ
How many ronnabytes are in 1 byte?
One byte is 1 × 10−27 of a ronnabyte. It takes 1027 bytes to make 1 ronnabyte.
Is B to RB decimal or binary?
This page is decimal (SI), where 1 KB = 1,000 B. Operating systems often count in powers of 1,024 and still print KB, MB or GB, when they really mean KiB, MiB and GiB. At RB the gap is wider still.
How do I convert RB to B?
Go the other way: multiply by 1027, which moves the decimal point 27 places to the right. The swap button on the converter does it for you.
